Saami Linguistics in Uppsala: The SAALS 4 Symposium

The present volume comprises a collection of papers held at the SAALS 4 symposium in 2019 in Uppsala, where Saami languages have been taught and studied as an academic subject since the late 19th century. ‘SAALS’ is an acronym for ‘SAAmi Linguistics Symposium’ and refers to a series of symposia on topics of Saami linguistics that have been held for two decades; SAALS 1 (2006) and SAALS 2 (2009) took place in Tromsø, SAALS 3 in Freiburg in 2018, SAALS 4 in Uppsala in 2019, SAALS 5 in Tartu in 2022, and SAALS 6 in Helsinki in 2024; SAALS 7 will take place in 2026 in Bodø.
